Respecting, Generous and Achieving, Loving All Our Neighbours.

Welcome to PHSE and RSE!

PHSE and RSE Curriculum

We strive to nurture safe and healthy lives where children have awareness, responsibility and literacy to recognise, understand and respect the diversity of life as they grow and change to live a life of loving all our neighbours. We encourage children to reflect and have the information they need to make informed, educated decisions. We want to empower our children to have a voice, pursue what they want in life and seek the help and support that they need now and throughout their lives.

Children and young people today are growing up in an increasingly complex world and living their lives seamlessly on and offline. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities, but also challenges and risks. In this environment, children and young people need to know how to be safe and healthy, and how to manage their lives in a positive way.

Mr Damin Hinds (The Secretary of State for Education) 19 July 2018

"...it is becoming increasingly clear that what might have held in previous eras is no longer the most effective way of keeping our children safe and preparing them for life in the world in which they live.

In an age when even primary school children are becoming exposed to online pornography-often by accident-and when practices such as "sexting" are becoming commonplace at a younger and younger age, we cannot simply advocate an approach like the three monkeys covering their eyes, ears and mouths, vowing to see, hear or speak no evil.

...if we want children to build resilience it is important to start young, teaching them about strong and healthy relationships."

The Rt Revd Stephen Conway-Bishop of Ely 01 March 2017

At the Village Saints Partnership, you will see:

  • A safe and supportive learning environment where children and young people can develop the confidence to ask questions, respectfully challenge the information they are offered, draw on their own experience, express their views and opinions and put what they have learned into practice in their own lives.

  • A positive approach which does not attempt to induce shock or guilt but focuses on what children and young people can do to keep themselves and others healthy and safe and to lead happy and fulfilling lives.

  • Developmentally appropriate stages of learning. Starting where children and young people are: finding out what they already know, understand, are able to do and are able to say. Deepening their knowledge as they progress through our schools.

  • Lessons where pupils feel safe and are encouraged to participate by using a variety of approaches with opportunities to develop critical thinking and relationship skills.

Our children:

  • Are kind and considerate of the needs and feelings of others.

  • Understand the importance of looking after ourselves and each other.

  • Are respectful and reflective, demonstrating maturity when discussing challenging issues facing our day to day lives and that of the wider world.

  • Have a sense of belonging to our school and our community and are proud to be part of this "It doesn't matter what kind of family you have, you will fit in well here and make friends".

  • Our children have knowledge of the diversity of life and show respect for this, understanding their role and responsibility within our community and the wider world.
