Respecting, Generous and Achieving, Loving All Our Neighbours.
The religions that we learn about are; Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism. We use Understanding Christianity to support our learning of Christianity units and use The Emmanuel Project to support our learning about different religions.
Intent
Through our inclusive ethos we feel it vital to design our RE curriculum to meet the needs of all of our pupils.
Our RE curriculum is knowledge-rich, the knowledge is valued, specified, well-sequenced and taught to be remembered. Our curriculum mapping for RE corresponds with the Christian calendar providing contextual learning for our pupils. Our curriculum consolidates prior learning before deepening and embedding learning creating a sequencing of building blocks throughout year groups. Our spiral curriculum, where we learn about a range of world faiths, encourages pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection within a safe environment. We aim to provide pupils with wider experiences such as enrichment days to learn about the world around them.
Implement
Through enquiry-led lessons, our RE curriculum provides the opportunity to explore theological, philosophical and social human sciences inevitably progressing pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
Our RE learning and progress is enhanced by the Understanding Christianity scheme where pupils are provided with the opportunity to learn core knowledge as well as dig deeper, allowing opportunity to explore as well as champion diversity and difference. Creative well-planned for lessons allow pupils to enquire and appreciate a range of beliefs and faiths within our multi-cultural society and understand how these shape life and behaviour.
As well as RE being an academically rigorous subject we are passionate that it is also an opportunity to provide the next generation with life-long skills and attributes such as ‘respecting others’. This is developed through the confidence of our pupils to question, debate and discuss with sureness allowing our pupils to consider varying points of view whether they have a personal faith or not.
Impact
We are determined that all our learners will leave school as fully rounded characters with a clear understanding of complex values. We are passionate and proud to state that our RE curriculum should work as a moral compass to guide our learners through life! They will make decisions for the right reasons and to benefit their community making a difference in their own life and for others.
