Respecting, Generous and Achieving, Loving All Our Neighbours.
Physical Education in our school aims to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing in our children now and for their future, to ensure they lead healthy lifestyles.
Intent
It is our intent to inspire and encourage all pupils to participate, succeed and excel in physical activity and competitive sport. We aim to deliver high-quality teaching and learning which provides children with opportunities to develop their physical competence and confidence to perform in a range of challenging, creative and competitive activities. Throughout these opportunities, children will develop essential life-long values including: cooperation, collaboration, tolerance, resilience, fair play and sportsmanship. We aim to provide enjoyment and inspire all children to lead happy, healthy, active lifestyles.
Implementation
Pupils participate in high quality PE and sporting activities. Our PE curriculum and extra-curricular activities incorporate a variety of sports to ensure all children develop the confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of their own and others' strengths and weaknesses. We provide opportunities for children to engage in extra-curricular activities during and after school, in addition to a wide variety of competitive sporting events. We ensure an inclusive approach which endeavours to encourage not only physical development, but also well-being for all children.
Engaging in a variety of competitive sports within our partnership and across the cluster, allows children to reach their full potential and excel in areas where they show great talent. These frequent opportunities develop children's confidence, resilience and courage and allows them to experience challenge and success. Children are also encouraged to plan, deliver and assess activities for their peers which helps them to develop key leadership attributes and make cross-curricular links.
Impact
Our curriculum aims to provide the wellbeing and fitness of all the children, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values PE promotes. Within our lessons, children are taught about the importance of physical activity and leading healthy lifestyles. Our impact is therefore to motivate children to utilise these skills in an independent and effective way in order to live happy lives and make healthy lifestyle choices throughout and beyond education.
